80th Anniversary of the Intelligence Corps
Keeping a social distance and in a relevant outdoor bubble, Paul McCue, Eddie Jones and Tony McCallum of The SWW2LN welcomed the Chief of Staff, the Regimental Sergeant-Major and another Warrant Officer of the Intelligence Corps, while Colonel (retired) Nick Fox wore his two hats of Deputy Colonel Commandant of the Intelligence Corps and Friend of The SWW2LN. The occasion, to mark the 80th anniversary year of the creation of today’s Intelligence Corps, consisted of two elements, in similar format to the SWW2LN’s commemoration of Jewish agents every September. The Corps’ representatives laid poppy crosses at the graves of British, Canadian and Australian Intelligence Corpsmen, before a short ceremony at the Memorial to the Missing1939-45, where NickFox spoke of the personnel of the Corps, mostly named on Panel 21.
The immediately following Last Post ceremony saw Nick describe the work of the Intelligence Corps and table displays highlighted four of the Corps personnel with no known grave whose names are on the Brookwood Memorial: Captain Clement Marc JUMEAU and Captain John Kenneth MACALISTER (a Canadian) of the Intelligence Corps and F Section, SOE; and Lieutenant Michael James CARTWRIGHT, (formerly COULOMB), and Major Philip Frank CHAMIER of the Intelligence Corps and the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS/MI6).
