In our annual appearance at the Wanborough Great Barn’s heritage open weekend (immediately adjacent to SOE’s STS 5 training establishment at Wanborough Manor) we gave four presentations, two on each day.
SECRET WW2 Trustees Ashley Barnett and Paul McCue presented on The secret history of Wanborough Manor and its part in saving Nazi-looted art; and volunteer and Friend of SECRET WW2 Meryl Jones offered “I did nothing civil in the war” – the story of Wanborough-trained secret agent Pearl Witherington, SOE’s only woman circuit leader.
Many of you will know Meryl (below, left) as Chief Cook and Bottle Washer at our events and conference, but this was her first outing as a presenter – prompting many congratulatory comments and messages. Well done, Meryl – and Ashley (below right in full flow), too. Our thanks also go to our hosts, the Wanborough Great Barn Management Committee, and especially to David Wilson. It is always a pleasure to partner with this hard-working community group.
