Together with her husband John, Maxine Harcourt-Kelly, Friend of Secret ww2 and daughter-in-law of the late Fred Bailey, ‘The Last Jed’, was delighted to be the guest of the 2nd Battalion, The Ranger Regiment of the British Army for the first presentation by John of the Bailey Cup. Donated by the family, the Cup commemorates former radio operator, Sgt Fred Bailey, of Jed Team CITROEN in France, Team COW in Ceylon and Burma and Team SURREY in Malaya. When he died in January, 2023 at the age of 99, Fred was believed to have been the last surviving Jedburgh team member. Presentation of the Cup will now be an annual event at the end of a gruelling long-distance march, competed by all four battalions of The Ranger Regiment which was formed in 2021 as part of the Army’s Special Operations Brigade. Having no single cohesive background among the four battalions, the Rangers are interested in the history of the Jedburgh teams as they share a number of Special Operations responsibilities.
