Australian SAS Historical Foundation
The concept of the Special Air Service had its genesis in the Western Desert Campaign of World War II in the British Army. But the Australian SAS traces its roots back to the first commando-type training in Australia, delivered by SOE’s Mawhood Mission in 1940.
